Rob Galbraith DPI: Fujifilm announces X-Pro1 interchangeable-lens CSC with APS-C sensor

UPDATE: Based on samples we saw today that were captured with a prototype camera, the sensor really shines with low light shooting -- the X-Pro1 can produce usable 16-by-20-inch prints even at ISO 25,600, which is the maximum supported sensitivity. Identical images shot with the 5D Mark II showed significant noise in shadow areas, while the Sony Alpha A77 (NEX-7) produced an image that you certainly wouldn't want hanging on a wall. The playing field was much more even at ISO 6400, where all three cameras captured usable images -- noise was still visible on both the Canon and Sony cameras, though it was indistinguishable in the Fujifilm print. Again, all of these samples were provided by Fujifilm, and were not the result of independent testing.

The X-Pro1's price will be around $1700, with lenses in the $650 region. The company says it will release 9 lenses for the X-mount over then next three years, including zooms, as well as prime lenses. The widest currently planned lens is a 14mm (21mm equivalent), and there will be mount adapters, with the Leica M-mount being the first to become available. -Dpreview

Fujifilm announces X-Pro1 interchangeable-lens CSC with APS-C sensor

Fujifilm has announced the X-Pro1, a 16-million image pixel interchangeable-lens compact system camera. Highlights for the new camera include:

an APS-C sized "X-Trans" sensor that uses a more highly randomized color filter array (as opposed to the standard Bayer pattern arrangement), allowing Fujifilm to dispense with an anti-aliasing filter, producing sharper pictures, according to the company
a hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, like the one in the X100; when in optical mode, the viewfinder adjusts to match the magnification of the three prime lenses introduced alongside the camera
a new interchangeable lens mount, called the X mount, which accepts new XF type Fujinon lenses
additional specifications such as a 3-inch LCD and a top ISO of 25,600

Along with the X-Pro1, Fujifilm introduced three interchangeable XF mount prime lenses:

Fujinon XF18mm F/2.0 R (field of view equivalent to 27mm in 35mm format terms)
Fujinon XF35mm F/1.4 R (field of view equivalent to 53mm)
Fujinon XF60mm F/2.4 R Macro (field of view equivalent to 90mm)
