Black and White or Color?

I often get asked whether one should use the black and white setting in the camera or color for a final black and white image. Unless you are certain B&W is your preference, it is best to shoot a color file and change it to B&W in post processing unless you shoot RAW files. I always shoot a color file even though I usually have a good sense whether it will be color or B&W as the image is captured.

Sometimes it is a toss up whether an image is better as a BW or color as shown in this photo taken in Taxco Mexico. I personally like the B&W version better. This photo was processed in NIK Silver Efex and Lightroom.
